about me

Robert Kenneryd has been practicing martial arts for over 25 years. In 2001, he was introduced to Wing Chun and immediately fell in love with it. He then practiced at several schools in Sweden, and, since 2005, has been travelling to Hong Kong one to two times a year for advanced training and practice. In 2008, Robert met Sifu Donald Mak on one of his trips to Hong Kong. Robert was deeply impressed by Sifu Mak’s skills and realized that he had found a Wing Chun master practicing and teaching at the highest levels of the martial art. Robert was accepted as a direct student of Sifu Donald Mak and travels as often as possible to Hong Kong to learn from his master. He also arranged for his Sifu to conduct seminars in Sweden on several occasions. After years of training with Sifu Mak, Robert received his master's blessing to both grade students and to appoint instructors recognized by the International Wing Chun Organization (IWCO). This also led to Robert’s school in Sweden changing its name to the International Wing Chun Organization Sweden. IWCO Sweden is a unique branch that falls under the direct lineage of Grand Master Chow Tze Chuen who is best known for his footwork and kicking techniques, which are also hallmarks of our Swedish branch. Grand Master Chow Tze Chuen was a direct student of Ip Man who all his life remained very private and ran a small Wing Chun school in Hong Kong where he received students only by personal introduction and recommendation. While Grand Master Chow Tze Chuen trained many students during his life, Sifu Donald Mak is one of the few disciples he taught the complete Wing Chun system to. Robert was given the Chinese name Gam Lok Chi (甘 樂 知) by his Sifu. The name means: "A kind and wise man who is happy and willing to absorb all new knowledge”.
