Ricky Lew, a Chinese born Canadian, starting his martial arts training in 1992 at the age of 17. He first practiced karate, quickly finding himself in a teaching role and eventually achieving a 5th degree black belt. While earning his living doing restaurant work, he dedicating himself to the study of martial arts. He has formal training in judo, aikido, bukiho (Japanese weaponry), tai chi and boxing. Finding his vocation in teaching, he went back to school and completed his bachelors in Physical and Health Education at McGill University in 2008. Read more

In the same year, he joined the faculty of Physical Education at Dawson College and became a tenured teacher within 4 years. He teaches classes such as: Tai Chi, Self-Defense, Karate, Fencing, and newly added Kung Fu Like many martial artists influenced by the writings and life of Bruce Lee, he was on a quest to keep things as efficient and effective as possible in the arts that he studied. His search finally lead him to look towards Ving Tsun. In 2002, Ricky Lew had the good fortune of meeting Sifu Darrell Carreon and joined VTMTL (Ving Tsun Montreal). Ricky became an assistant instructor in 2012 and 2013 marks many milestones for Ricky. Engaged to his beautiful girlfriend and proud father of a baby boy, he now looks forward to his new journey in the “kung fu life” of Ving Tsun and to share it with his kung fu family. Ricky is grateful and humbled by being honored with the presentation of his gold sash at such a prestigious event such as Master Sunny Tang’s 40th anniversary gala!
